Los Alamitos High School has an abundant amount of things to be proud of and one of them is the amazing marching band. Tom Plunkett, the director, conducts and teaches the students how to become professional musicians during school hours. The fruit of their labors? The marching band has now been invited to perform in London on New Year’s Day.
It started like this. A representative of London’s New Years parade contacted Mr. Plunkett and the band and invited them to spend the holiday performing at the prestigious event. The band accepted and began practicing.
The band will be leaving on December 27 and returning from their trip of a lifetime on January 3. Throughout the week they will play in the parade and tour throughout London. They will experience the sights as culture of London for roughly a week and then return home.
The trip will include 157 people, which includes the 79 performers and their family. The parade route contains 500,000 people and is directed along famous sights such as Big Ben and the River Thames. About 300 million people are expected to be watching the parade on BBC (British Broadcasting Network). Which is extremely impressive. That is more than the population of California multiplied by seven!
So, in conclusion, the band will be honoring Los Al from the United Kingdom playing and performing beautiful pieces. Good luck and have a great time, marching band!39.25
