Application season is coming up. Seniors, of course, get the brunt of the work; next year, they’ll officially be college freshmen. Juniors have some preparation, of course. They’re next in line to graduate.

But what about underclassmen? To Freshman and Sophomores, application season means nothing, just a few months passed through as usual.

However, it’s never too late to start preparing for college. It’s always a good idea to start thinking about your options, no matter how tedious it may be. Especially for those who are less fortunate, and even those who are wealthy, college is expensive. It can take lifetimes to fully pay off your college debt. It haunts many adults for decades after they receive their degree. With insurance to pay for and resources to buy, do future adults really want to have to spend their well earned money on a chapter of their lives they have already closed?

The second point to keep in mind is where you want to go for college. I would encourage fellow underclassmen to think outside the box. Look up other schools than just the top names. College is also a good time to explore outside California. It’ll probably be less expensive to rent or buy a house somewhere else, that’s for sure! Don’t shy away from moving out-of-state if you really have your heart set on it. I’d advise, however, to visit that college or state first before deciding on going there, as you might find it’s not what you wanted.

It’s never too early to start saving for college or researching for potential scholarships. These easy steps can be taken by even underclassmen, making their journey to college painless and efficient.
