The NHL season is getting closer and closer and hockey fans have been waiting months for the long off-season to end. This off-season was quiet for the most part but there has been some game changing trades lately.

Recently, Max Pacioretty, the Montreal Canadians captain, was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights for forward Tomas Tatar, prospect Nick Suzuki, and a draft pick. The Vegas Golden Knights added to their incredible offense by adding Max Pacioretty to their roster. The Montreal Canadians are taking the more patient approach and are building for the future.

The biggest trade of the offseason happened not long after. Erik Karlsson, the all-star defense man and captain of the Ottawa Senators was traded to the San Jose Sharks for Chris Tierney, Josh Norris, Dylan DeMelo, Rudolfs Balcers, a 2019 or 2020 first round pick, a 2019 second round pick, and two conditional draft picks. The Sharks gave up a lot for one player but I believe they did well in this trade as they gained a huge asset to their team. Erik Karlsson has won the Norris Trophy twice in his career (trophy for best regular season defenseman) and is in the middle of the prime of his career. The fact that the Sharks now have Erik Karlsson and Brent Burns on their blue line is a scary thought as we enter the season.

Preseason began last weekend, so it will be interesting to see how Max Pacioretty and Erik Karlsson do with their new teams.
