One fine Thursday afternoon, Louie Gallagher and Connor Franzen decided to tweet John Mulaney and Nick Kroll, two of the most famous stand up comedians and the writers and producers of Oh Hello on Broadway. Louie and Connor wanted to get Mr. Mulaney and Mr. Kroll’s permission to perform a scene from the hilarious play Oh Hello. Much to their pleasant surprise, Mr. Mulaney and Mr. Kroll tweeted them back.

Here is an exclusive interview featuring Louie Gallagher and Connor Franzen about this whole interaction.

Q. Why did you decide to tweet John Mulaney and Nick Kroll?

Louie: “Connor and I are huge fans of John Mulaney and Nick Kroll and everything they do, but especially Oh Hello, the show they made. So being huge fans, we decided that we wanted to perform a scene from that show for the California State Thespian Festival. So we sent them a tweet, not thinking about the reply and then they replied. We freaked out.”

Connor: “We wanted to perform a piece from their show, but the script isn’t published and there are no published rights, so we needed their consent to perform. We’re thinking of doing the whole show sometime soon.”

Q. What was the immediate reaction when they replied?

Louie: “I was in the drama lunch meeting after posting that. I said I’ll be right back and I ran out to tell Connor and we celebrated. Originally our plan was to just do a scene but after seeing that Nick Kroll wanted two free tickets, we are planning on performing the whole show.”

Connor: “ I was off-campus when John responded and when I came back, I saw Louie sprinting at me. As soon as he told me, there was  . Nick Kroll’s response was quite funny. He’s a cool guy so we knew he’d be alright with it. We were happy he took the time to come up with a comedic response.”

Q. What was the best part of that interaction?

Louie: “The best part about that interaction was first that, John Mulaney and Nick Kroll are our heroes. They literally inspire all of our comedy, so to have them notice us and allow us to do this is crazy and amazing. The response from Oh Hello fans has been awesome too.”

Connor: “The whole thing was the best part. I’ve officially peaked as of last week.”

Q. What’s next on the agenda, after the approval from them?

Connor: “We will be competing with a piece from the show and are hoping to do a full performance in the near future. Nick and John requested two free tickets and a bottle of water foundation water, so maybe they will be there as well.”
