On Wednesday, November 14,  Los Alamitos High School, had Signing Day for its very well deserved, hard working athletes. This day is considered a very important day in a student athlete’s life, because this is the day they get to sign letters of intent to a school that offers them a scholarship to play their sport. Now to understand what goes through a athlete’s mind during and before the big day, I spoke to Tara DeBrabander, a senior who is going to Loyola Marymont University to play water polo, a few questions about how she felt about  Signing Day.

Her response was: “Just to finally see all my hard work pay off was the most rewarding and amazing thing.”  She was ready for this day and had prepared, trained and played hard so that one day she would be able to sit at that table in front of all her family and friends and get to sign a scholarship to her future.

But what does Signing Day mean to her exactly? She explained that “Signing Day is all about celebrating student athletes who are signing their national letters of intent, which means that they are committing to play on a collegiate sport team.” No wonder this is such a big day for athletes because they get to play their sport at a college of their choosing.

When speaking about the actual event, Tara added that it was, “Absolutely amazing! The amount of love and support you receive during the event is incredible and validate that that hard work paid off. The flowers, the balloons, the band, the cheer team; everyone is just so enthusiastic and it makes it very exciting. I’ve been to all the signing days for the past 3 years, so I thought I would know what to expect on my signing day. But it was everything I expected and more. It was just a really special day and I could not have been happier.”
