The newest movie in the Fantastic Beasts series has just taken flight. A continuation of the world famous Harry Potter saga, the newest inclusion in the wizarding world might not have our favorite lightning-scarred boy, but does build on the gargantuan, ever-changing universe that Ms. J.K Rowling has created.

This time around, we follow Newt Scamander, author of his novel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (not to be confused with the previous movie!) on his quest to find Credence, the obscurious introduced in the first Fantastic Beasts. A troubled and dangerous child who has already faced much hardship, Credence now is being hunted down by aurors (wizarding enforcement against dark magic) and Grindlewald’s followers alike. Rumor has it that Credence is one of the last lines of one of the great pureblood families left, and this could be his only saving grace if the Ministry of Magic gets their hands on him. Newt and company seek to reform and detain the obscurial Credence, before he is killed by aurors, or, perhaps even worse, turned over to the dark side by Grindlewald.

With the basic summary of the set-up out of the way, let’s dig in deeper into the newest installment of the Harry Potter world. While some are a bit disappointed by the lack of mythical creatures compared to the last movie (and admittedly, there are significantly less new creatures shown this time around–though the ones we do get to see are quite unique with amazing designs), there’s still plenty to get excited about–and praise. The Crimes of Grindlewald, as it’s title suggests, focuses mainly on the fight against Grindewald as both sides search for Credence. Some might argue there’s enough sub-plot filler to stuff a erumpent, but I personally found even seemingly off-hand, pointless phrases to be stoked with meaning in the end, fitting nicely to one big red bow. There’s plenty of plot twists (some that will make you so frustrated with certain characters you want to check them in with Newt’s kelpie) but, all in all, it is definitely worth a watch!
