Good Morning America host, Lara Spencer, creates an uproar as a result of her insensitive comment on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s child. Lara Spencer reviews Princess Charlotte and Prince George’s school curriculum and brings up the topic of ballet, which was one of Prince George’s favorite activities. Prince George takes ballet at his private school, Thomas’s Battersea, and “loves it” according to Prince William. Lara Spencer says with a laugh, “I have news for you, Prince William, we’ll see how long that lasts”. Viewers instantly responded to this and the hashtag #boysdancetoo soon spread fast on Instagram. Not only was the #boysdancetoo hashtag a response to Lara Spencer, but it was to also represent how both genders can do anything they want to do.

After hearing the nonstop public criticism, Lara Spencer apologized twice, once on Instagram and once on air on Monday. On Instagram, she stated, “From ballet, which I took as a kid, to anything in life you wish to explore, I fully believe we should all pursue our passion. Go climb your mountain-and love every minute of it.” Male and female dancers have also responded by gathering around Times Square and performing a ballet class where the inside of the studio of Good Morning America could view from the building. After two days, she apologized on Monday saying, “The comment I made about dance was insensitive, it was stupid, and I am deeply sorry…” Lara Spencer definitely learned how much ballet really meant to both male and female dancers, and how times have changed.
