On Tuesday, October 1st, the 2019 MLB Postseason began with the National League Wild Card game. Just like every year, the postseason will end with the World Series at the end of October.
There are some surprise teams that made this year’s postseason, along with several other teams that failed to make it. The Boston Red Sox, last season’s World Series champions, failed to make this year’s postseason. Instead, the Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland Athletics were the two American League wildcard teams, while the New York Yankees took the division title for the AL East championship.
In the American League of this year’s bracket, the Houston Astros are waiting to compete against the winner of the AL Wild Card, which will be decided in a single game match-up between the Rays and the Astros. The New York Yankees are set to square off in a best of five game series against the Minnesota Twins.
In the National League of this year’s bracket, the Los Angeles Dodgers are facing the Washington Nationals in a five game series. The Washington Nationals won the National League Wild Card game with a come from behind win against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. The St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves are facing off in the other National League Divisional Series.
Predictions for this year’s World Series Champion is up in the air as there are many teams that deserve the victory. The three top candidates for this year’s World Series Champions are the Astros, Dodgers, and Yankees. Overall, the best team in this postseason based on statistics is the Astros, who were the 2017 World Series Champions. The postseason continues all throughout October.
