Have you ever wondered why we celebrate Halloween?

Halloween is right around the corner!

Andrew Chouinard, Staff Writer

Every year, kids across the world look forward to October 31, the night of Halloween. Kids go “trick or treating”, an activity where kids head to the streets in their costumes and go from house to house asking for candy. But people might ask, where does Halloween come from? According to History.com, the ancient Celtics had a festival where the people would “light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts”. Eventually, the holiday evolved into a day where children wear costumes, eat sweet treats, and carve jack o’ lanterns. One of the most fun parts of Halloween is wearing costumes. Children have a wide variety of choices to choose from when it comes to picking out a perfect Halloween costume. The kids can wear costumes pertaining to characters from movies, T.V. shows, and books. Also, if they choose, they can go the scary route and wear some frightening costumes during the scariest night of the year. The second most fun thing on Halloween is “trick or treating”. The kids will roam the neighborhoods and go to every house, begging for candy. According to History.com, trick or treating was for “poor people in the middle ages who would go to the wealthier people’s houses and ask for food. But later this was taken up by the children, who asked for food, money, and ale”. The third and final most enjoyable part of Halloween is when everybody gets to spend time with their families. The people have fun with their families, and make wonderful memories to look back on when the kids grow older.Halloween is a great holiday and an even better night to have fun and eat huge amounts of candy.
