After the Los Angeles Angels struck out on their opportunity to recruit star pitcher Gerrit Cole, they have been desperately searching for new starting pitchers. The Angels are yet to find any adequate pitchers but they were able to recruit World Series winner and All-Star third baseman, Anthony Rendon as one of their new star players. They signed Rendon to a 7 year, 245 million dollar contract, which was very unexpected because even though the Angels need a well-trained, capable third basemen, they have many other substitutes.
Rendon’s contract has provided the Angels with a strong and complete infield, as well as added a great hitter to the Angels’ team. Rendon had many offers besides the Angels which he was forced to decide between. Rendon was highly sought after by the Texas Rangers which provided quite a dilemma as a result of Texas being his home state. The Washington Nationals were also trying to get their third basemen back, and the Los Angeles Dodgers were also in the running for gaining the talented player. During the press conference in which the Angels signed Rendon, he revealed why he went with the Angels, claiming that he would have signed with the Dodgers but the area was not the greatest for his family. He wanted to be in L.A., and he therefore happily signed with the Angels. Although this recruitment may prove beneficial, the Angels need to focus on signing starting pitchers, especially since Gerrit Cole rejected their offer and decided to go to the Yankees. Being an Angels fan myself, I do believe that this signing is a great thing, but the Angels definitely need to at least sign a new starting pitcher besides Dylan Bundy, who often struggles to keep up with the other players.
