As the 2019-2020 NHL season comes to a close, the playoffs approach closer and closer with every day that passes. With the trade deadline over, that leaves about a month left in the season as most teams have about seventeen to eighteen games remaining. At this point in the season, every game is meaningful as just two points can boost your chances at securing a playoff spot drastically.
In the Western Conference, many teams are fighting for a wildcard spot right now. The wildcard consists of two spots but there are about five-six teams that are in range of it, but teams can’t seem to claim one either as the past few weeks have been up and down when it comes to who has a spot.
The top three spots in the Central Division seem solid as the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, and Dallas Stars all have massive ground over all the other central teams.
On the other hand, the Pacific Division is wide open with teams flip flopping what seems to be every day. There are still four to five teams that have potential to finish in the top three spots of that division.
The Eastern Conference wildcard is not as interesting as the Western Conference wildcard as there our not as many teams fighting for a spot as there is in the west. But, there are still about three to four teams that have a chance to grab a spot.
The top three teams in the Atlantic Division seem to be separating from all the other teams in the division as they continue to pull wins out of games.
Similar to the Atlantic and the Central, the Metropolitan division has the same story going for it right now.
There are still many games remaining in the season and time to gain ground on other teams as nothing is guaranteed until the season is actually over.
